Symposium: Science, Sexuality, and the Law
Event description:
Andrew Byers, Duke University
Michael Grossberg, Indiana University
Mary Ziegler, Florida State University
Three historians—with expertise on abortion, childhood, and the military—reflect on the intersections of science, law, and sexuality in the United States. Join us for a symposium that asks how scientific and legal authority have constructed, contested, and regulated sexual identity, sexual expression, and sexual norms. How is authority over sexuality created? Does the Foucauldian paradigm (in which the power of science in some ways supplanted the power of the state) still hold sway?
